I
have been a professional drummer since 1964, and
I continue to play in local groups around Arizona.
Out of necessity, I began doing drum repairs - repairing
my own drums (sometimes while on stage, on the break)
and instruments of fellow musicians in the late
60s. I began doing extensive drum repairs,
recovering, and refurbishing in 1968, and I was
soon experimenting with making my own drums "from
scratch."
I
began my custom drum company, "TJS Maple Passion
Custom Drums" (my wife helped name the company),
formally, in 1992. To date, my drums have been sold
in local music stores and now, most recently, at
Milanos Music in Mesa, AZ. I currently build
custom kits and snares as well as complete many
repairs, rebuilds, and recovering of drums.
Sizes
of drums available are unlimited can customize
almost any size of snare or complete kit. I prefer
8-ply shells for toms and bass drums; 10-30 ply
works for snare drums.
There
are hardware options available. The preferred lugs
are TJS solid brass, but after-market chrome die
cast are also available. The hoops are 2.3 mm or
die cast. Other options are available.
Finishes
are widely varied and include Satin Lacquer, Gloss
Lacquer, stains (unlimited stain colors), sunbursts,
and various wrap finishes. The heads that I prefer
to use on my drums are Aquarian, but customer preferences
are accommodated whenever possible (Remo, Evans,
etc.)
Prices
vary according to sizes and options, with snare
drums usually running between $319 - $700. Kit prices
are quoted individually. The turn-around time for
a snare drum dependent on options and finishes
is generally between 6 8 weeks. Kits,
again dependent on sizes and finishes, take approximately
8 10 weeks.
Thank you for your interst in TJS Maple Passion
Custom Drums!
